Markel Homes Joins the Movement to End Youth Homelessness
You might remember the Boulder nonprofit as Attention Homes. They’ve changed their name to TGTHR to signal the start of a national movement to end youth homelessness.
But they can’t do it alone, which is where we come in.
We’ve been building homes for nearly 50 years. We’re family-owned and local. We believe every person deserves a safe place to live. Our partnership with TGTHR is one way for us to serve the communities we care about and help folks who could use our support. The name TGTHR is the message young people hear when they walk through the doors of one of TGTHR’s six programs: You’re not in this alone. We’re here, we’ve got your back. We’ll figure this out together.
Lives are transformed

Beyond putting a roof over the heads of young people who’ve had a tough go, the team at TGTHR addresses basic needs like food, clothing, and someone to talk to. They offer training in real-life skills. Young people are coached in how to look for a job and prepare for an interview. Staff provide counseling services as well as resources, education, recreation, and socializing opportunities.
Last year the organization helped more than 400 young people turn their lives around. Some of them (106) came with a history of domestic violence. Another 70 were LGBTQ+ who reported family rejection, and 61 were formerly in foster care.
TGTHR is a great place to land. They offer an inclusive and safe community for all genders, identities, races, ethnicities, religions, and sexual orientations. Every voice is valued, respected, and empowered. Through the support of the TGTHR community, participants regain control and transform their lives.
It takes a village

A program this comprehensive requires the larger community to step up and give. To keep the doors open and the programs thriving, TGTHR relies on individual and corporate donations as well as proceeds from fundraising events.
Markel Homes was a Platinum Sponsor of the virtual 2021 Under the Stars Gala and Auction. The evening generated more than $280K to support youth facing homelessness in Boulder!
Next up, Markel Homes is a Supporter of the TGTHR Sleep-Out fundraiser to be held on March 24th and the virtual Sleep-Out on March 26th. We’ve also committed to a Bronze Sponsorship of the 2022 Fundraising Gala to be held in the fall.
